About South Houston NSBE Jr.

The National Society of Black Engineers was founded in 1975 at Purdue University by six students known as the Chicago Six. NSBE was created because there was a need to support blacks pursuing degrees in the field of engineering. NSBE has grown to be the largest student run organization, with over 30,000 members. All of our activities support our mission:

To increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community.

NSBE has a Pre-College Initiative program called NSBE Jr. A NSBE Jr. Chapter consists of 1-12th grade students who also help serve the NSBE Mission. In 2008, the South Houston NSBE Jr. Chapter was chartered in Houston, Tx. In 2009, the chapter opened its membership to over 40 new members and 30 other student participants. Since then, the chapter has continued to grow in all aspects!
